Solar Cookers

3rd grade is studying ENERGY and the other classes were making smores using solar cookers, i decided to let them try to figure it out themselves and just gave them the materials. Most of them covered the inside of their box with aluminum (pronounced as you wish) but there were a few interesting choices. One boy decided to completely wrap the smore in foil, another just sealed the box up with tape (with the foil and smore inside), and a non speaking Korean girl just ate the uncooked smore. I learned later, from another Korean student, that she was hungry and she did not quite understand. Our conclusion was that they all melted the same in the blaring sun. Very messy.

Road 105 Party

Tonight we planned our big building party (our building has 5 apartments on 5 floors and we are all teachers) and here were some of the discussion points:
1. mandatory Jello shots at the door?
2. heavy metal or just metal?
3. finger food or sit down dinner?
4. bartender or no bartender? and should we make him wear a bow tie?
5. lasers or sharks with lasers?

We have decided on a T-shirt party, thanks Francis, so everyone can wear their favorite t and we'll give out prizes for most patriotic, snappiest, crudest, and most ergonomically functional.

The night is also combined with the annual faculty art show which will be displayed in one of the apartments.

The L Word

Lame ... Like many overseas teachers, Carrie and I spend some of our time here watching DVD TV shows. We have lately run low on choices (caught up on LOST, Heroes, apparently Buffy was canceled) and decided, on many recommendations, to watch The L Word. Maybe I should give it another go because I don't see how you can make soft core porn so absolutely boring ... and there's five seasons ... hmmmm

Latin nights in Dhaka

Last night was Latino Night (yes there is quite a large Spanish-speaking expat community) at the Radisson. As one of the distractions to the fact that we are living in Dhaka and to just have one more reason for a bunch of expats to congregate and drink, it was fun.
